    • We can infer a few things just based on what was said and shown. I don’t have her chart in front of me, but:
The black that she was describing was tissue necrosis, meaning it’s completely dead. Black=100% rotted tissue that immediately needs to be cut.

You actually can comfortably cut necrotic tissue though because by then the nerve endings are dead too, but obviously that’s totally inappropriate to do to a patient.

You’re right with what you said about gangrene. Dead tissue if left attached rots healthy tissue, which is what occurs in gangrene.

She also likely turned septic. Staph Aureus flourished an multiplied inside her wound, eventually becoming a systemic life-threatening emergency.

She described a foul odor, and noted the pus. I’d put my money on identifying the strain of bacteria as MRSA, you can read up on that if you have the desire. 😊

That was a real emergency, and I’m so glad she’s alive! I’m sure the doctors will be able to help her, or they wouldn’t have put her in the show. 😊

Way to ask all the smartest things you could ask!
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! 🌲

    • Thank you for that information, Allison! Very informative, and appreciated. And, Happy Holidays to you, as well!
