D.C. BAND WINS SECOND AIR JAMAICA JAZZ FEST QUEST
Posted on Tuesday, November 07 @ 13:54:02 CST by Admin-Mixradio
MultimixRadio writes " CaribPR Newswire, NEW YORK, N.Y Nov. 7, 2006: Peter Humphrey and the Oasis Band was Friday night, November 3, declared the winner of the second inaugural Air Jamaica Jazz Fest talent competition, held in Baltimore, Maryland.

The band, formed 15 years ago by Peter Humphrey, was voted the winner by judges of the US Jazz Quest at the Crossroads café in Bladensburg, MD. The band plays reggae, soca, calypso, and African music in the Washington DC Metro area and members are of Caribbean and African descent.

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, Jacky & Strings, a Caribbean- infused Latin band, was named the first winner at the talent competition in Hollywood, Florida. Jacky’s talent transcends cultures and sounds, bringing a fresh and innovative blend of Caribbean and Latin music. A gifted composer and noted guitarist, Jacky’s unique approach and versatility enabled him to deliver a distinctive signature sound that won the nod of the judges.

Producers of the Festival move on to Harlem, New York on November 8th for performances at the Harlem Grill, 2247 Seventh Avenue, (corner 132nd St.) in NYC. The final Quest will be held on Nov. 17th at the Apache Café, 64 Third Street, NW, in Atlanta, GA.

Festival organizers are in search of the best- undiscovered jazz, blues, Latin, and reggae musicians across the U.S. Each Jazz Fest Quest will feature a one-night-only talent showcase, where top music industry judges along with the audience will get to determine the winner.

Four independent entertainment industry experts along with media professionals will serve as judges for the Jazz Fest Quest, and with the audience serving as the fifth judge, the performers will have to “do what it takes” to impress them.

The New York talent showcase is booked but Atlanta contestants can contact the venue to secure a performance spot.

The best act will win an all-expenses paid trip to perform live in Montego Bay, Jamaica at the prestigious festival from Jan. 25-27, 2007 and a chance to be discovered.

Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival is a Turn Key Production and has been running continuously for the past ten years. Sponsors include Air Jamaica, The Jamaica Tourist Board and American Express.
