Akon Shines But Bounty Killa Arrested At Reggae Sumfest

MultimixRadio writes "

Senegalese singer Akon, rocked the audience at Reggae Sumfest 2008 but dancehall star Bounty Killa ended up being arrested for using foul language.

Bounty is due in court next week to answer charges of using indecent language and disorderly conduct, after he launched into an expletive-filled rant at the Sumfest dancehall night concert in Jamaica early Friday morning.

No stranger to controversy, Bounty, whose real name is Rodney Basil Price, was booed by patrons at the concert when he began criticizing other DJs during his performance.

This angered the deejay who cut his set short and turned on the crowd angrily. He was arrested, charged, and released on bail.

He faces up to 30 days in jail if found guilty. Jamaica prohibits profanity in public performances.

But while Bounty`s reaction may have put a damper on Sumfest`s reggae night, Grammy-nominated singer Akon, who was added only last week to the line-up, thrilled the audience on international night.

Akon was received by screaming female fans  as he treated them to hits from his 2007 album, Konvicted and then on to Soul Survivor and Locked Up. His performance included walking on top of heads to mingle with the crowd while singing hits like `Smack That` and the soca-remix of `Don`t Matter.`

Sumfest 2008 wrapped up with performances Saturday night from John Holt, Berres Hammond and rapper T-Pain and Lil Wayne.

Anonymous writes " The South African reggae musician, Lucky Dube, has been shot dead in front of his children in Johannesburg during an attempted car hijacking.

He had been dropping his teenage son and daughter off in the suburb of Rosettenville on Thursday evening.

Police say they were already out of the car when three shots were fired through a car window killing their father.

Alongside Bob Marley, he was thought of as one of the great reggae artists - singing about social problems.

He was also one of the apartheid regime's most outspoken critics.

Correspondents say the killing has shocked South Africans who are already accustomed to one of the highest murder rates in the world.
